Circuit House
With the act of arriving as its organising principle. A rounded timber storage unit stands between the entrance and living room, creating a pause in the passage from outside to within. Shoes are removed, bags set down, and the routines of the day begin to loosen their hold.
Combining storage with ambient illumination, the joinery gives this threshold a presence beyond its practical role. Its curved edges and raised body allow views to continue around and beneath it, preserving a sense of connection between the adjoining spaces. Beyond, filtered daylight settles across pale upholstery and timber surfaces. The home unfolds through these small changes in enclosure, light and pace.
A place to arrive.
A storage unit separates the entrance from the living area in Circuit House, establishing a place to remove shoes and set down bags before moving further into the home.
The arrangement takes its cue from a mudroom, giving these everyday activities a defined area at the point of arrival.
An illuminated threshold.
The joinery also serves as an ambient light source, bringing storage, spatial division and illumination into one element.
Its position establishes a threshold between the two areas, while its light contributes to the atmosphere of the adjoining living space.
The entrance becomes a distinct part of the plan, with a practical role and a quieter transition into the home.
Closer to home.
